Pigeons get a rough deal, they're seen as dirty, common, diseased and boring. The French use the word 'pigeon' in the same way that English speakers use the label 'sheep' to describe people. They are viewed as the unseeing, unthinking, unspectacular masses.

I wanted to make a point, the same for both people and pigeons, the more you look the more you will find. Just look at the veritable spectrum of colour in the plumage of any standard city pigeon, it's opalescent! Full of greens, pinks and all colours in-between, not to mention their beautiful method of flight. People are the same, obviously they can't fly, but spend enough time with someone and you'll see what they're capable of.
